Best Practices Model

The Best Practices Model is designed for school districts that wish to implement the entire PIQE experience, but are not located near a PIQE regional office. PIQE will provide training and dedicate ongoing support to a district for one entire year, including two onsite visits. Participants will receive PIQE’s parent training curriculum and Teacher Workshop binder. PIQE also welcomes suggestions to adapt, modify, and adjust the curriculum to meet local district needs.

In addition, the following services are provided:

• PIQE Boot Camp. Teachers and administrators receive in-depth training on best practices for increasing effectiveness in parent involvement. Some strategies include: culturally-relevant parent recruitment methods, the selection and training of recruiters and facilitators, developing curricula through effective communication with parents, and measuring program outcomes.

• Teacher Workshop on Effective Parent Engagement. This six-hour workshop, designed by PIQE in collaboration with the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), helps teachers and administrators work with parents on how to support their children’s education. The workshop covers several themes, including: the need for parents to become involved in their children’s education; effective strategies for parent involvement; the role of the parent and of the teacher in influencing student performance; parent-teacher interaction and conferences; and the design of a parent involvement action plan by teachers and administrators.

• PIQE Shadow Program. Participating individuals will accompany PIQE staff as they conduct a parent training class, facilitator meetings, and a teacher workshop.
