Early Childhood Development Program

The Early Childhood Development Program supports parents and caregivers during the critical early years of their children’s lives, from birth to kindergarten. Families learn about physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth, and discover practical ways to create positive learning experiences at home. The program helps parents become their child’s first teachers and strongest advocates.

Why Early Childhood Matters

The first five years of life are the foundation for a child’s future. During this stage, children’s brains develop rapidly, making early experiences essential to long-term success. With support and guidance, families can:

  • Encourage language and literacy development.

  • Build strong social and emotional skills.

  • Foster curiosity, problem solving, and creativity.

  • Prepare children for a confident and successful transition into school.

What Families Learn

The program is structured into six sessions, each focused on a key area of early development:

  1. The Importance of Early Years – Understanding stages of development, brain growth, and quality childcare.

  2. Language Development – Helping children build vocabulary, communication skills, and emotional expression.

  3. Preparing for Reading – Building early literacy habits through shared reading, songs, and stories.

  4. Early Math Skills – Exploring shapes, numbers, and patterns through play and daily activities.

  5. Ready for School – Understanding preschool, transitional kindergarten, and the expectations teachers have for new students.

  6. Preparing for Kindergarten – Supporting children with academic, social, and emotional readiness, and understanding Common Core standards.

Tools and Support

Families receive handouts, activities, and role-play exercises they can practice at home. Parents also learn how to use the ParentSquare PIQE App to communicate with facilitators, access resources in Spanish and English, and share strategies with other families.

The Impact

By participating in the Early Childhood Development Program, families:

  • Gain confidence as their child’s first and most important teacher.

  • Build strong daily routines that support learning.

  • Help children enter school with the skills they need to thrive.

  • Strengthen family bonds through play, conversation, and shared learning.
