Elevating Family Voice in California’s Multilingual Future

At the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), we believe that families are essential partners in shaping the future of education. That’s why we were proud to collaborate with Californians Together and partners across the state on the Listening at Scale blog series, which centers the voices and experiences of families raising multilingual learners.

This series builds on years of statewide engagement, including PIQE’s own annual family surveys, which consistently show strong demand for dual language programs across California. Families want more than access. They want learning environments that honor their home languages, reflect their cultures, and support their children in becoming bilingual, biliterate, and successful.

Through this collaboration, PIQE contributed insights drawn directly from the families we serve, helping to highlight both the opportunities and gaps that exist in expanding multilingual education. The findings are clear. California families value dual language learning and are calling for greater access, clearer pathways, and stronger support from schools and systems.

We are honored to be part of this collective effort to ensure that family voice informs policy, practice, and investment in early learning and beyond. When families are heard, students thrive.
