PIQE Family Math Together Program

The Family Math Together Program helps families build a strong foundation in mathematics for their children, especially during the elementary years. Parents and caregivers learn how math connects to everyday life, how to support their student’s learning at home, and how to create positive attitudes that reduce math anxiety. The program strengthens family-school partnerships and shows families that everyone is a “math person.”

Why It Matters

Math is more than numbers—it’s problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking. Early math skills open doors to academic success, career opportunities, and future economic stability. When families are actively involved in math, students:

  • Develop stronger confidence and problem-solving skills.

  • Build positive attitudes toward learning.

  • Strengthen their readiness for advanced courses like algebra.

  • See math as useful in daily life.

What Families Learn

The program includes five interactive lessons:

  1. The Importance of Family Involvement in Math

Families learn how everyday activities—like cooking, shopping, and playing games—strengthen math skills and encourage positive attitudes.

  2. Addressing Math Learning Gaps

Parents learn to recognize math struggles, reduce anxiety, and use growth mindset strategies to help students overcome challenges.

  3. Understanding Common Core and Math Practices

Families explore Common Core standards, California’s Math Framework, and strategies to support students with modern approaches to math.

  4. Navigating Math Struggles and Seeking Support

Caregivers learn how to identify when a student needs extra help, how to communicate with teachers, and how to access resources.

  5. Math Made Fun

Families explore how games, puzzles, and everyday adventures can make math engaging and enjoyable at home and in the community.
