Focus Group Results Illuminate Parents’ Experience with California Schools

Last summer, PIQE worked with The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation and its partners, Sobrato Philanthropies, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to complete a series of community focus groups reflecting parents’ experiences navigating the state’s education system while in pursuit of the best education for their children. The summary includes reflections of two Latino parents, both active PIQE members.

Key themes emerged from the conversations including “lack of orientation from schools to help parents better understand their children’s placement in an English language development program” and “challenges their school faced when a charter school was established in their community.”

The full report is due out soon. Stay tuned! We look forward to sharing the full report once released.
