Giving Tuesday, considered by many as the day that kicks off the giving season, is held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Many nonprofits use the day as an opportunity to launch end-of-year giving campaigns to take advantage of people making their final tax-deductible donations for the year.  But let me tell you what nonprofits are able to accomplish with these generous contributions:

Carmen came to this country with five young children. She worked as a housekeeper for many years, sometimes traveling very long distances to get to her place of work. After many hours of cleaning windows, bathrooms, and floors, she would come home tired but determined to be involved in her children’s life, always encouraging them to strive for a brighter future.

There was one problem though, Carmen did not understand the educational system in the US. Frustrated, there were many times when she was not so sure she would be able to send her kids to college.

But giving up was not an option, so Carmen decided to look for help, that is how she came to PIQE. Four of her five children are now college graduates; the youngest one, a Standford graduate, is now pursuing his master’s degree at Berkeley.

This is just one of many success stories in PIQE’s 36 years. We have been able to empower families thanks to people like you, who recognize the importance of investing in family engagement. With a gift of $50 a family in California receives one week of Bridge to College training. Something that seems so small to you can mean the world to someone else.

#GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

This year #GivingTuesday falls on November 28^th, but at PIQE donations will be open from November 1^st until December 15^th.
