Highlights from the 2024 NAFSCE National Assembly for Family Engagement

Last week, the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) joined family engagement leaders, educators, policymakers, and practitioners at the National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement (NAFSCE) National Assembly held in Denver, Colorado, from October 21-25, 2024. The conference brought together advocates from across the nation to strengthen family engagement efforts for student success.

PIQE was honored to attend alongside representatives from our newly launched California Statewide Family Engagement Center program (CA-SFEC). Throughout the assembly, our team engaged with experts in workshops, keynote panels, and networking events, sharing insights on the transformative impact of family engagement on student achievement, school community well-being, and teacher satisfaction.

Keynote speakers, including Dr. Karen L. Mapp, Dr. Joyce Epstein, Ann Henderson, and Adrián Pedroza, discussed the evolution of family engagement and the critical steps needed to address systemic challenges and promote equitable educational opportunities. Their conversations highlighted significant milestones in the field and emphasized the shared responsibility of educational communities to foster family partnerships that enhance student learning and development.

Attending the NAFSCE National Assembly was an invaluable experience for PIQE and CA-SFEC, reinforcing our commitment to advancing family engagement as an essential strategy for promoting educational equity and excellence.

Representing PIQE at the event were President & CEO Gloria Corral; Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Elizabeth Cabrera; Vice President of External Relations Ileana Lopez; and Dr. Janet Nuñez-Pineda, Director of the California Statewide Family Engagement Center, along with additional staff who supported throughout the weeklong event.

We look forward to applying the knowledge gained to further support families and educators in building a collaborative foundation for student success.
