Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) Announces Leadership Transition
Dr. Ryan E. Alcantara Appointed Interim President and CEO
SAN DIEGO, CA – The Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), a statewide leader in family engagement and educational equity, announces a leadership transition. In mutual agreement, The Board of Directors and Gloria Corral have decided to conclude her tenure. To guide the organization through this next chapter, the Board has appointed Dr. Ryan E. Alcantara as Interim President and CEO, effective July 1, 2025.
Gloria has played a pivotal role in strengthening and expanding the organization’s impact. Under her leadership, PIQE has grown its national footprint to 14 states, published critical research on family engagement, and advanced key policy and programmatic efforts to support multilingual learners and immigrant communities. “As I reflect on my time as President and CEO, I am extremely proud of the transformative impact PIQE has made in the lives of children and families in California and across the country. Now, more than ever, PIQE plays an essential role in advancing the voices of families in their children’s education.” Corral said. The Board extends its gratitude for her dedication and leadership and wish her continued success.
To ensure continuity during this transition, Chief Operating Officer Derek Parker will temporarily cover the duties of the President and CEO. In the weeks ahead, Dr. Ryan E. Alcantara, PIQE’s Board Treasurer, will step into the role of Interim President and CEO.
Dr. Alcantara brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education, student advocacy, and public service. A seasoned administrator and educator, he most recently served as Board Treasurer at PIQE and currently oversees career services at the USC Rossier School of Education. His leadership background includes senior roles at UC Riverside, CSU Fullerton, Marymount California University, and Irvine Valley College. He is also an adjunct faculty member at USC, teaching at the Sol Price School of Public Policy and the Rossier School of Education.
“Dr. Alcantara has been a steadfast champion of PIQE’s mission and a valued leader on our board,” said Rose Elena McAuliffe, PIQE Board Chair. “His understanding of educational systems, deep personal commitment to equity, and collaborative approach make him the right person to lead PIQE through this period of transition. We’re confident in his ability to support our staff, strengthen partnerships, and continue advancing our work across California and beyond.”
PIQE is coming off four consecutive years of programmatic growth, expanding its digital offerings and deepening its impact with over 100 staff members statewide. The organization continues to deliver responsive, research-based programming to empower families and build authentic school-community partnerships.
“I’m honored to serve an organization that has meant so much to so many families—including those whose stories reflect my own,” said Dr. Ryan E. Alcantara. “PIQE’s mission is personal to me. Our impact is transformational for families and communities, and its reach is intergenerational. I look forward to working with our talented team, board, and partners to continue building on this strong foundation.”
The Board of Directors will launch a national search for a permanent President and CEO.
