PIQE Supports Eight Bills Signed Into Law by California Governor

It has been an exciting year for PIQE’s Policy and Advocacy team! After a full legislative session and unprecedented investments in education in our California State Budget, we can finally take some time to celebrate our legislative victories for the year.

PIQE supported eight bills throughout the 2021 legislative session that were signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom. This year, the Governor’s last day to act on hundreds of bills was October 10, 2021. PIQE supported these legislative proposals in different ways. We wrote letters of support, testified in Assembly and Senate committee hearings, joined coalitions across the state in action, met with legislative staff, and much more.

Among the bills that were signed there are initiatives to close the digital divide, support learning recovery, address student mental health, increase accountability for our public schools and strengthen financial aid for all students.

We are thrilled to see the positive outcomes these laws will create for California students and families next year and for years to come. For any questions regarding PIQE’s statewide legislative efforts, please email PIQE Policy Associate, Lucero Chavez at Lchavez@piqe.org.
